Art Rules is a platform created by the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in London. It was launched in August 2013 and aims at encouraging online conversations about what art is, isn’t and should be. The main question is a daunting art and the answers are fascinating: What is art?
I have not found my answer yet but yesterday I watched “The Cool School” a documentary released in 2007 about the Ferus Gallery. From 1957 to 1966, the Ferus Gallery was the catalyst of modern art in Los Angeles. Launching the careers of luminaries like Warhol, Ruscha and Lichtenstein, it built an art scene from scratch and transformed the cultural climate of the West Coast. Walter Hopps is one of the founders and I quite enjoyed his answer that I wanted to share: Art offers the possibility of love with strangers – Walter Hopps.
