Francis Bacon’s Lucian Freud triptych has officially become the most expensive artwork every paid for at auction at Christie’s last night breaking the record established by Edvard Munch’s Scream in May 2012. Jeff Koons become the world’s most expensive artist with the sale of Balloon Dog (Orange) (1994–2000) for $58.4 million while other artists established new records such as Lucio Fontana or Ad Reinhardt.
The contemporary art sale fetched $691.6M, a world record in itself.
